SPIN VFX has evolved into an internationally recognized Visual Effects studio, working with respected Directors, VFX Supervisors and Producers. With television credits that include the Emmy award-winning series Game of Thrones (HBO), Neil Jordan’s thrice Emmy nominated The Borgias (Showtime), and film credits such as the recently released Suicide Squad (Warner Bros./DC), Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows (Columbia Pictures), J Blakeson’s The Fifth Wave (Columbia Pictures), and the Academy Award winning biopic Spotlight, SPIN VFX delivers on vision. SPIN is located in Toronto with sales and support in Los Angeles.

The Art of VFX (hosted by Wesley Sewell & Jennifer Maillet)
A look into the post production world from the talented artists at Toronto's own Spin VFX, this panel will go through the process from script to screen of how visual effects are done.

Masters of VFX (hosted by Jennifer Maillet, Kaitlyn Frankevych, Marcus Kirk, Wesley Sewell, JW Pang & Brian Zhang)
A behind the scenes look into the world of of visual effects with some of Toronto's Leading artists in Visual Effects, featuring Senior Artists and VFX supervisors who have worked on high end feature film and television all over the world.


Kyle Menzies - VFX Supervisor 

Emmy nominated artist Kyle Menzies joined Spin in 2014. Menzies has over 20 years under his belt in the industry, across a wide range of feature films and television series, both live action, and fully animated. Visual effects credits include Netflix’s original drama adventure series Marco Polo, Dominion (SyFy), the Showtime hit tv series, The Tudors, and feature films Blade II (New Line Cinema), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (Sony Pictures Entertainment) and Silent Hill (TriStar).Kyle is currently Supervising the groundbreaking science fiction series The Expanse produced by Alcon Television Group for SyFy.

Wesley Sewell - VFX Supervisor

A twenty-year veteran, Wesley has worked with esteemed directors on fan-favourite franchises from Marvel such as Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, Kenneth Branagh’s Thor and Jon Favreau’s Iron Man. He has also worked closely with Oscar nominated legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott to supervise American GangsterA Good Year and the epic Kingdom of Heaven, for which Wesley won the Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Live Action Feature.Wesley began in editorial, working closely with Ridley Scott on Gladiator, Hannibal, and Black Hawk Down, which won the Academy Award for Best Editing.

A stereoscopic expert, Wesley has pioneered many techniques in the mastering and finishing of 3D films. These techniques are being utilized by nearly all 3D films finishing in Hollywood today. He has successfully supervised some of the most effective and exciting 3D films to date, and won the Lumiere Award from the International 3D Society for his work on The Avengers.

Dave Cardwell - Creative Director/Partner
The 2014 recipient of The Academy’s prestigious Technical Achievement Award, honoring pioneers who have contributed in significant and lasting ways to motion pictures, Dave has been carving a path as a VFX artist and innovator for close to twenty years. He was a Co-Founder/ Creator of Mudbox, later acquired by Autodesk, where he developed sculpture and texture painting tools used at some of the worlds leading visual effects companies today.

Dave began his career as a Designer and Class A Surface Modeller working for Ford in Detroit and Mercedes Benz in California. He moved on to a Senior Character and Environmental Modeller position at Weta Digital working on Peter Jackson’s Oscar winning blockbuster trilogy The Lord of the RingsKing Kong and Alex Proyas’ I-Robot. He later joined EA in their Sports Division to strengthen the character creation process, developing proto-type modelling tools to more efficiently create photorealistic facial likeness for FIFA and NBA games.

Following his success with Mudbox, Cardwell continued his pursuit of visualization technologies, expanding his experience into real-time asset creation, texturing, shading and animation. He has successfully directed and distributed several games and mobile visualization products.

Dave is a visionary and his passion to create beautiful imagery has led him to partner with SpinVR to creatively pioneer bringing this immersive technology right to your doorstep.

Jennifer Maillet - Senior Compositor

Jennifer has worked in the film industry for 7 years. She has been a VFX Artist on shows like The Walking Dead, Vikings, Orphan Black, Penny Dreadful, Fear the Walking Dead and Legion, to name a few. She's also worked on feature films such as Harry Potter, Suicide Squad, Elysium and Into the woods.  
In 2013, her team won the Canadian Screen Award for Outstanding Achievement In Visual Effects for their work on Vikings.
Andrew Scott Lead Compositor
Andrew Scott has worked in the industry for 5 years. He is currently a Lead Compositor at Spin VFX mainly working on the television series The Expanse. Andrew has worked on films and television shows such as Suits, Scandal, Fear the Walking Dead, The Expanse, Dominion, Rupture and many more.
He will be presenting the Expansive World of VFX and his contribution to seasons 1 and 2 of the show. 
Barry Kane - Chief Technical Officer 
Coming from Ireland, Barry started his career in London, UK, in the early 2000s working on landmark films for the UK VFX industry such as Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Alien vs Predator and the Harry Potter franchise.
He moved to the US in 2005 to join the DreamWorks Animation technology team, later joining Sony Pictures' Imageworks and Disney’s ImageMovers Digital, contributing to the complex rendering efforts on Robert Zemeckis’ Beowulf and A Christmas Carol.
Barry was instrumental in spearheading the technical development required to deliver Iron-Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron at Trixter in Germany.
